Our Mission
The mission of Children's Assistance Fund is to provide the highest quality social, health, and educational support to the vulnerable children of Armenia ensuring that they may live a healthy, happy, productive life.
Our Story
Children’s Assistance Fund is a Non Governmental Organization that is concerned with raising children in the disadvantaged areas of Armenia. Our story begins at Christmas of 2005 when Kamo Arakelyan, our director, realized that there were children in his home town of Hrazdan who would not receive any holiday gifts. He knew he could not allow this to happen and raised enough capital to ensure that every child in Hrazdan would have a magical Christmas that year. Kamo knew however that he had taken only a small step towards solving the problems the children of Armenia faced. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia has experienced a devastating earthquake, the Artsak war and deportation from Azerbaijan.
All of this has resulted in wide spread poverty, high unemployment, unstable homes and unsatisfactory or non existent health care especially among the underprivileged, orphaned and handicapped children of Armenia.
In response Kamo founded Children’s Assistance Fund in the spring of 2006. Since then CAF has worked for the children of Sevan, Hrazdan, Charentsavan, Tsakhkatzor and their surrounding villages. Our work has touched over 500 children with social, educational, health care, judicial, ecological, cultural and religious projects. Presently we are focused on the opening of our new daycare center for the more than 230 disabled children of Hrazdan.
CAF which started with one man’s desire to see children happy at Christmas now has a staff of eight, a youth volunteer corps of over 30 members, a trustee council and many friends and donors without who our success would never be possible.
Children’s Assistance Fund was founded on Kamo Arakelyan’s vision of giving disadvantaged children the same opportunities to succeed as children born into privilege. We do what it takes to educate and keep each child healthy. We give them the same care that we would give our own children. This includes basic necessities that should be every child’s right: health care, a roof over his or her head, someone to talk to, books and pens and school supplies, nutritious food, and the time to play, imagine, and enjoy being a child. CAF is transforming our communities. We are not one story, but many.
